Animals in Serbia

There are many kinds of animals in Serbia. There are domestic and wild animals.

Domestic animals live in the village or on the farm.  People take care of them. They raise animals because they eat animals’ meat, eggs and they drink milk. They use fur, skin or wool. In Serbia we raise cows, horses, sheep, pigs, goats, rabbits… Pets are favourite. People herelove pets as if they are their children. They take them for walks, to the vet, to the hair-dresser, at the seaside or to parks. Usually pets are treated with much love and generosity. Pets are: a dog, a cat, a hamster, a turtle, a parrot, sometimes even a snake.

Wild animals that live in Serbia, in forests and on mountains are bears, foxes, snakes, wolves and birds like sparrows, pigeons, storks, owls, falcons, eagles, peacocks and pheasants. They take care of themselves. There are also wild animals in the zoo: polar foxes and bears, lions, tigers, monkeys, snakes, crocodiles, hippos,, giraffes, elephants, wolves, many kinds of birds like owls, hawks and parrots… Everybody can visit them. These animals are well-bred and many take care of them. But honestly, that the life in the zoo is like living in prison. My grandparents live in Kikinda. The fact that 700 owls live there is very interesting.  Kikinda is the world’s most famous town in number of owls. It is unknown why owls come to live just in that town. Owl became a ‘trademark’ of Kikinda.

It is great pleasure to have so many animals in our country. They may be man’s best friends. Animals help people when they are hurt, blind or just give them love and protection.
